Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 5 (ANI): The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) celebrated a significant transition in leadership with a heartfelt farewell for former Director Prof Nageshwar Rao and a warm welcome for incoming Director Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari, who is also serving as the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, Bhatinda.
The event was held at the IIAS Pool Theatre and was attended by all fellows and employees of the Institute.
Prof Nageshwar Rao, who has served as Director of IIAS with distinction, was honored for his remarkable contributions to the institute. His tenure was marked by significant academic achievements and the strengthening of IIAS's position as a premier research institute. In his farewell address, Prof Rao expressed his gratitude to the institute's staff and fellows for their unwavering support and dedication.
The event was graced by the virtual presence of Prof Shashi Prabhakumar, Chairperson of IIAS, and Prof Shailendra Raj Mehta, Vice-Chairman of IIAS, who addressed the gathering and highlighted Prof Rao's contributions and the institute's progress under his leadership.
Prof Prabhakumar lauded Prof Rao's visionary leadership and tireless efforts in fostering a culture of academic excellence. Prof Mehta echoed these sentiments and expressed confidence in the continued growth of the institute under the new leadership.
Welcoming the new director, Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari, who is also serving as the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, Bhatinda, the speakers highlighted his distinguished academic background and extensive experience in higher education and research.
Prof Tiwari, in his inaugural address, shared his vision for the future of IIAS, emphasizing the importance of innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and global engagement. He expressed his enthusiasm for working with the institute's talented fellows and staff to further its mission.
Prof J.K. Rai, convenor of the Fellows' Council, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the collaborative spirit and academic rigor that define IIAS.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by IIAS Secretary Shri Mehar Chand Negi, acknowledging the contributions of both directors and the institute's community for their support and dedication.
