Sohail Mahmood, Pak High Commissioner to India

New Delhi (India), Aug 4 (ANI): Pakistan High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood on Saturday expressed hope that relations between both the countries will perk up following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf's (PTI) chief Imran Khan's victory in the country's general elections
Mahmood, who earlier today visited Dargah Salim Chishti in Fatehpur Sikri, told ANI, "I am hopeful that the relationship between both the nations will strike a new chord and more peaceful dialogues will be held between the leaders of the two countries. Even the PTI chief (Imran Khan)spoke about the same during his public address."
Welcoming Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's phone call to Khan following the latter's victory in the recently-concluded general election, Mahmood said, "It was a nice gesture from Prime Minister Modi and, hopefully, it will help resume the suspended talks between India and Pakistan."
Ties between India and Pakistan have remained tense since the 2008 Mumbai terror attack and nosedived after the Uri terror attack by Pakistan-based terrorists in September 2016, that claimed lives of 19 Indian soldiers.
The relation further deteriorated after a military court in Pakistan sentenced naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav to death on charges of alleged espionage and terrorism in April last year. (ANI)
