Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) [India], January 16 (ANI): Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Tuesday that more than 100 startups have become unicorns across India as the country has become a major centre of attraction in the global startup ecosystem.
Speaking to the media on National Startup Day, Pradhan said, "Earlier, there were a limited number of startups, but now the number has gone up to more than a lakh. Especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, engineering graduates are showing their skills in innovation, and out of them, more than 100 startups have become unicorns. India has become a major centre of attraction in the global startup ecosystem."
"This is because of the farsighted vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the coming days, India will be the centre of solutions to the world's problems in the 21st century through startups. Under the guidance of PM Modi, a new model has been created for the world. The governance system of our country has set an example," Pradhan added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier declared January 16 'National Startup Day, which recognises the extraordinary growth and contributions of the startup community to the Indian economy.
The Prime Minister said in January 2022 that startups are going to be the backbone of India and that January 16 will be celebrated as 'National Startup Day'.
"Start-ups are going to be the backbone of New India. When India completes 100 years of independence, startups will have an important role. The country's innovators are making the country proud globally," the Prime Minister said during his interaction with startups across different sectors.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that India's startup ecosystem is "continuously discovering and improving itself."
'National Startup Day' aims to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary growth and contributions of the startup community to the Indian economy. (ANI)
