New Delhi [India], Oct 27 (ANI): The national capital woke up to a sunny morning on Saturday with the minimum temperature settling at 18 degrees Celsius.
For Sunday, weather experts have predicted that Delhi will witness hazy sunshine and frost with the maximum and minimum temperature hovering at 17 degrees and 32-degree Celsius, respectively.
However, the air quality of the region continues to be in the 'very poor' category making it difficult for people to carry out outdoor activities. The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) recorded the day's Air Quality Index (AQI) as 332, which falls in the red zone.
The AQI between 0 to 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 falls under the category of 'satisfactory', 101-200 is marked as 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor' and 500 and beyond is considered as 'severe'.
With Diwali round the corner, President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday expressed concerns on the rise of air pollution and urged social organisations to spread awareness about celebrating festivals without harming the environment.
"It is time for winter festivals. In such times, people in cities like Delhi experience breathing problems due to an increase in pollution level. Social organisations should create awareness among people about celebrating festivals without affecting the environment and maintaining peace and harmony," he had stated while addressing the gathering after inaugurating the International Arya Mahasammelan 2018.
In Mumbai, the city which is just off the coast of the Arabian Sea, people will experience varying degrees of heat until the onset of winter season, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.
The IMD has forecasted a minimum temperature of 27 degree Celsius and a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius for Saturday with 57 per cent of humidity.
The air quality Index of Mumbai remains in the moderate category with PM 10 at 134, SAFAR said.
"It is reasonable for healthy people to be active outside. Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion and must take it easy if symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath occurs," it added.(ANI)
