Jashpur (Chhattisgarh) [India], Oct 14 (ANI):  A morning walk was organised by electoral officials in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur on Sunday to spread voter awareness ahead of the assembly elections in November this year.
The morning walk, called "Chalo Matdan Kendra ki Ore" was a part of "Jash-Pran", an initiative in the district under the flagship program of the Election Commission of India (ECI) for voter education called Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP).
The morning walk was led by the District Election Officer, Dr. Priyanka Shukla from Jashpur headquarters and assistant returning officers (AROs) at other places to reach out to those polling stations which recorded lowest polling percentages in the last assembly elections and motivate the voters in these areas to exercise their right. The officials walked along with a group of people covering a distance of 10-12 kilometres while appealing to people to cast their votes.
During the walk, officials were seen explaining why voting is essential for the fitness of the democracy.
"Sugam Sugghar Samaveshi Nirvachan is the theme of Legislative Assembly elections 2018 as decided by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer. Sugam is accessible, Sugghar means beautiful and well kept, and Samaveshi means inclusive. As a part of this we walked to show Matdan Kendras (voting stations) are pretty accessible," said Shukla.
Chhattisgarh elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 12 and 20. (ANI)
