Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 12 (ANI): The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rains in several districts of Himachal Pradesh over the next five days.
A yellow alert has been issued by the weather centre in Shimla for the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Shimla, Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur.
Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist, IMD Himachal Pradesh, said that during the past 24 hours, most places in Himachal Pradesh received light to moderate rains.
"Districts of Una, Solan, and Hamirpur experienced heavy rains with Una recording the highest at 100 mm. Bilaspur also received heavy rains and Nadaun recorded 72 mm. Solan and Kasauli also saw heavy rains," he said.
"Over the next five to six days, most places in the midhills will experience moderate rainfall. From August 12 to 14, parts of Solan, Sirmaur, and Una districts are likely to receive heavy rains and after August 15 most places will experience light to moderate rains. A yellow alert has been issued for these areas in the state," Sharma said.
The official further said that in August the state received 21 per cent more rainfall than normal but the overall monsoon rain this year is 22 per cent below normal.
"In the districts of Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Una, and Bilaspur, monsoon rains have been normal so far. However, Lahaul-Spiti has recorded the lowest rainfall in the state at 73 per cent below normal. On a monthly basis, Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, and Kinnaur have received less rainfall while other districts have experienced normal to above-normal rainfall," he said.
"The districts of Sirmaur, Solan, and Shimla are expected to experience fog, leading to poor visibility due to low-level clouds. Temperatures will remain below normal. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, especially in the areas under the yellow alert," he added. (ANI)
