IIT Madras student's death is not suicide, says Stalin

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Nov 15 (ANI): The death of IIT Madras student Fathima Latheef is not suicide and there are many questions around her demise, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin said on Friday.
"The death of IIT Madras student Fathima is not suicide. After interacting with Fathima's father it is clear that there are many mysteries and questions around her death," he tweeted in Tamil.
Stalin urged the state government to arrest the culprits in the case and ensure that justice is given to the victim.
Earlier today, the father of the victim Abdul Latheef met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and called for a proper investigation into the matter.
Speaking to reporters, the victim's father alleged that her daughter was subjected to harassment and she feared Sudarshan Padmanaban, a professor of IIT Madras.
He asserted that the IIT management did not inform the family after her death and said he was assured by the DGP that the culprits would be brought to book.
Fathima had allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her hostel room last week. She was a native of Kerala and was pursuing an integrated MA program at the institute.
Fathima was staying at the Sarayu hostel at the campus. Following the incident, the police, in its primary investigation, had revealed that Fathima was separated from her family for the first time and had scored poorly in her internal exam. (ANI)
