New Delhi [India], April 27 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa called for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's resignation following remarks made by the Delhi High Court over the non-supply of textbooks to 2 lakh students.
"Arvind Kejriwal, if you have even a bit of shame, you should resign immediately after hearing the High Court's remarks," Sirsa said.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court on Friday came down heavily on Kejriwal and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) over the non-supply of textbooks to 2 lakh students.
Sirsa alleged that Kejriwal is "power-hungry," accusing him of prioritizing his personal interests over those of the nation.
"Arvind Kejriwal is power-hungry. He is using power for his own gain and is prioritizing his personal interests over the nation. I am not saying this; these are remarks made by the High Court, where they pointed out that Delhi's education model is so flawed that 200,000 children don't even have access to basic things like books. Not only that, but there's also a lack of drinking water, and the court mentioned that children are forced to study under tin sheds," Sirsa said.
"Yet, Arvind Kejriwal still wants to remain Chief Minister even if he is in jail and continues to indulge in his lust for power," he added.
The bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan also comprising Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora showed displeasure with the Aam Aadmi Party-led MCD and said on Friday that the Delhi Chief Minister has put personal interest over national interest by not resigning despite his arrest.
Justice Manmohan also said that the Delhi government is least bothered about students not going to school, not having textbooks, and the disturbance in their studies.
Court also slammed urban development minister of Delhi Saurabh Bharadwaj and he has turned a blind eye to the plight of students.
"This is arrogance of power at its highest," added the court.
Voting for all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi is scheduled to take place on May 25, during the sixth phase of the electoral process. The counting for all seven phases of the Lok Sabha polls will be held on June 4, 2024. (ANI)
