"If it would've been played in opposition ruled state..." Congress' Rashid Alvi backs Rahul Gandhi's 'panauti' remark

New Delhi [India], November 25 (ANI): Backing Rahul Gandhi's 'Panauti' remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that if the World Cup final had been played in opposition-ruled states, then we might have won.
Reacting to Mamata Banerjee's statement about the "World Cup in Kolkata," Rashid Alvi said that "the planets of the Bhartiya Janata Party are not aligned now-a-days. If the World Cup had been played in any opposition-ruled state, then we must have won it.
Speaking on the Election Commission's show cause notice issued to Rahul Gandhi on his 'panauti' remark against the Prime Minister, Alvi said that "if Congress gives any presentation to the Election Commission, it is completely ignored. Why didn't the election commission issue a notice on PM Modi's 'Murkho ke sardaar' comment on Rahul Gandhi?".
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remark against PM Modi has once again sparked massive controversy. BJP has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the Wayand MP.
"Our guys were playing well; they would have won the World Cup. But 'Panauti' made us lose. The TV guys won't tell you this but people know," Rahul Gandhi said while campaigning at Rajasthan's Barmer on Monday.
Jumping into the controversy, TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee said that "Team India would have won had the finals happened in Kolkata (at Eden Gardens) or at Wankhede (in Mumbai).
"Our players were made to wear gerua (saffron). The players resisted, so the India team did not have to wear saffron jerseys during matches, Mamata said.
"They were making our players wear saffron jerseys. Our players opposed changing their blue jerseys, so they added a touch of saffron to the blue jersey," she added.
Continuing her tirade, the chief minister, without taking the name of anybody, said, "Wherever the paapi (sinners) go, they take along their sins. One must not forget the saying, paap baap ko bhi nai chorta (Sin spares none)."
Soon after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by indirectly blaming him for India's loss to Australia in the World Cup Final, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MP Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned the usage of such a word for the Prime Minister and asked Wayanad MP to apologise.
The Election Commission of India on Thursday issued show cause notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his 'Jaibkatra' (Pickpocket) and 'Pannauti' remarks on Prime Minister Modi in an election rally.
The BJP wrote a complaint to ECI on November 22 about Rahul Gandhi using derogatory remarks about PM Modi in his rallies.
"Whereas, a complaint has been received from the BJP (copy enclosed) alleging that you, on November 22, 2023 in a public meeting at Bayatu, District Barmer, Rajasthan made wild allegations and spoke in a derisive and obnoxious manner about the Prime Minister. It is alleged that comparing a PM to a "Jaibkatra" (pickpocket) and using the word "Pannauti" is unbecoming of a very senior leader of a National Political Party. Further, the allegation of grant of waivers of Rs. 14,00,000 crores for the past 9 years, is asserted by the BJP, as not borne out on facts," the ECI letter to Rahul Gandhi said. (ANI)
