New Delhi/Pune (Maharashtra) [India], Nov 19 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday dared the central government to take action against him if he was found involved in any anti-national activities.
His statement comes following media reports of his alleged involvement in the Bhima-Koregaon violence case. The police, however, are yet to confirm his involvement.
Reacting to the reports, Singh clarified that the phone number mentioned in the letters, recovered by the police during investigations, has not been used by him for past four years.
"The phone number they are mentioning is available to everyone via Rajya Sabha's portal. I have not used it for the last four years. If I am involved in any kind of anti-national activities then Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh and Devendra Fadnavis can take action against me," the Congress leader said.
According to the reports, Singh's name surfaced during the investigations into activities of banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) which was allegedly involved in conspiring to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Reports mentioned that letters seized during investigations included Singh's phone number.
The letter reportedly spoke of plot to assassinate Prime Minister Modi in another Rajiv Gandhi-type incident.
Meanwhile, Pune's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Suhas Bavche confirmed that they have found few letters during the course of the investigation but did not reveal if Singh's name was mentioned in it.
Bavche declined to reveal more information in the case since investigations are still underway, saying: "On basis of the probe, some letters were recovered. In those letters, few mobile numbers have been found, we are investigating the matter," he said.
On August 28, the Pune Police arrested five activists allegedly linked to the CPI (Maoist) for their alleged involvement in the violence that erupted earlier this year during the 200th anniversary of the Bhima Koregaon battle. (ANI)
