Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], April 9 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) party MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Wednesday emphasised the importance of holding those involved in terrorism accountable for their actions over the extradition of 26/11 mastermind Tahawwur Rana.
Speaking to ANI, Sadiq said, "If anyone in the country or the world is involved in any kind of terrorism and hurts innocent people, it is our duty to make the accused go through a trial and make him accountable for his actions."
On April 7, the United States Supreme Court rejected the plea of the accused, seeking a stay in his extradition to India.
Rana filed an emergency application with Chief Justice Roberts on March 20, 2025, seeking a stay on his extradition.
"The application for stay addressed to The Chief Justice and referred to the Court is denied," the SC order dated Monday, April 7, 2025, stated.
Speaking on the violence that erupted in West Bengal's Murshidabad against the Waqf Amendment Act, with clashes between demonstrators and the police, the MLA said that he wished the bill had not been introduced.
"I wish this bill was not introduced... A division is being created in the country. 300 MPs have opposed this bill, which means there is a political division in the country..."
The violence between the demonstrators and police has resulted in stone pelting and torched police vehicles.
Earlier today morning, tight security was maintained in the Jangirpur area, with various police officials stationed at multiple roads to maintain peace.
Official confirmation from officials on whether there have been any injuries or arrests following the violence is awaited. (ANI)
