IAF espionage case: Decision not made in haste, says Sitharaman

New Delhi [India], Feb 1 (ANI): Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday clarified that the decision to detain an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer for espionage was not made in haste.

“They had enough reasons to take the action. Time was also spent on it before taking a call, therefore, nothing has been done in a hurry,” the Defence Minister said.

Yesterday, an IAF officer was detained from Delhi by the Counter Intelligence unit for espionage on Wednesday.

The officer was detained for further questioning after he was found indulging in activities through unauthorised electronic devices during routine counterintelligence surveillance carried out by the IAF's Central Security and Investigation Team.

The officer allegedly passed on certain classified documents to a woman.

The detained officer is posted in Air Force Head Quarter in Delhi. (ANI)
