New Delhi [India], 15 August (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, in his address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 78th Independence Day emphasised bringing one nation and one election in the country adding that these days every welfare scheme is linked to elections.
"Continuous elections in the country are causing headraces in development. Welfare schemes in the country are now linked to the elections" the Prime Minister said.
He further stated, "Every three to six months we have elections, every work in the country is now linked to elections. A wide range of discussions have already happened. Every political party has already expressed their views".
Requesting the countrymen and political parties of the country to support 'one nation on election he said "A committee has already submitted the report on this. The nation has to come forward for one nation and one election".
'I request all political parties from the Red Fort to come forward for one nation and one election", he added.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pushed for major reforms in the farm sector on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day celebrations and emphasised efforts to make the lives of farmers in the country better.
Delivering his customary address on Thursday from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 78th Independence Day, the Prime Minister commended farmers for choosing organic farming and added that the country's farmers can make India the organic food basket of the world as it moves towards its goal of Viksit Bharat.
"We need to reform the farm sector. Today we are giving easy loans, tech, and valuation of produce. Today when everyone is concerned about the earth, we are grateful to farmers for choosing organic farming which we have made provisions for in the budget," the Prime Minister said.
"Organic food is a need. We can become the organic food basket of the world. We must strive to make the lives of farmers better," he added.
Earlier today, PM Modi was warmly welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other dignitaries as he arrived for the celebrations at Red Fort. The Prime Minister was seen dressed in a white kurta and blue vest and sporting a traditional multicolour Safa.
This year's celebration marks the 11th time PM Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort on Independence Day, making him the third Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to achieve this milestone. The theme for this year's Independence Day is 'Viksit Bharat @ 2047,' aiming to drive the Government's efforts to transform India into a developed nation by 2047. (ANI)
