Nadia (West Bengal) [India], June 5 (ANI): Mahua Moitra, the TMC candidate from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat, expressed her satisfaction over her electoral victory and the broader context of the election held against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"I am happy with my victory but considering the communal politics going on in India and Modi ji had said that he is contesting all 543 seats, I am happy that these elections have been held against him. The performance in Bengal has also been good," Moitra said.
TMC's Mahua Moitra, who is seeking re-election from West Bengal's Krishnanagar seat won against BJP candidate Amrita Roy, as per ECI.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, commented on the Lok Sabha results and said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee misused the administration to win in the LS Polls 2024.

"In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee misused the administration and police and feared people for snatching social welfare schemes from them. The way they did appeasement politics, even the Muslim League does not do such type of appeasement politics. It is because of all this that she won in many seats," Adhikari said.
"The people of this district are with me and PM Modi's hand has been strengthened," he added.
Adhikari highlighted that crores of voters supported the BJP and PM Modi, with more than 39 per cent of the vote share in West Bengal going to the BJP. "It is our duty to continue our work, and we will do so," he asserted.
In a notable defeat, five-time MP from the Baharampur seat, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, lost to TMC candidate Yusuf Pathan. Polling in the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency was held on May 13 during Phase 4 of the elections.
As per the Election Commission of India's latest updates, TMC won 29 seats, Congress won 1 seat, while BJP's tally came to 12 - 6 seats less than the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
West Bengal, which sends 42 MPs to Parliament, participated in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections. The final tally saw the Trinamool Congress winning 29 seats, the BJP securing 12 seats, and the Congress obtaining 1 seat, as per the Election Commission.
Comparatively, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC won 34 seats in West Bengal, while the BJP managed only 2 seats, and the CPI (M) and Congress each won 2 and 4 seats respectively. In the 2019 elections, the BJP's presence surged to 18 seats against the TMC's 22, with the Congress reduced to 2 seats and the Left failing to secure any seats.
As the counting for the Lok Sabha elections was nearing its end, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossed the majority mark and is ahead on around 300 seats, while the INDIA bloc, defying all predictions is leading in 232 seats, according to the latest trends.
A few exit polls predicted that the NDA could reach the goal of "400 paar" as claimed by BJP leaders in the run-up to the general elections.
Notably, most exit polls predicted a straight term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with quite a few of them projecting a two-thirds majority for the ruling BJP-led NDA.
The Lok Sabha elections were conducted in seven phases- on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1 and the counting of votes started on June 4. (ANI)
