Hyderabad celebrates floral festival 'Batukamma' amid COVID-19

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 25 (ANI): Batukamma, a floral festival of Telangana which falls two days before Dussehra, was celebrated at several places in Hyderabad on Saturday with women sing and dance around specially arranged flowers.

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 25 (ANI): Batukamma, a floral festival of Telangana which falls two days before Dussehra, was celebrated at several places in Hyderabad on Saturday with women sing and dance around specially arranged flowers.
The festival celebrated by women with flowers that grow exclusively in each region in Telangana. The flowers are carefully arranged row after row in a brass plate (called taambalam) in circular rows and in alternate colors.
The festival which is a symbol of Telangana's cultural identity begins a week before the grand 'Saddula Batukamma', the grand finale of the Batukamma festival.
"For the last six years, we have been celebrating Batukamma, a most celebrated festival for Telangana people. Due to the COVID-19 situation, we have become a bit cautious and we are taking proper care for ourselves. On the 9th day of the festival, we danced together and offer prayers to Batukamma," Sandhya Reddy, a local told ANI.
Meanwhile, another local named Nandini said, "Due to COVID-19 situation, we are celebrating Batukamma by putting on masks and maintaining physical distance while dancing. This is an important festival for all the people of Telangana." (ANI)
