"Hundreds of complaints of non-accuracy, delay, cancellations," says CPI MP Sandosh Kumar on IndiGo disruptions

New Delhi [India], December 4 (ANI): CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar on Thursday raised concern over the ongoing wave of IndiGo flight delays and cancellations across the country, urging the Union government to intervene and address the operational shortcomings of India's largest private airline.
Speaking to ANI, Sandosh Kumar said, "IndiGo is the largest private player in this field (aviation)... But at the same time, there are hundreds of complaints of non-accuracy, delay and cancellations."
Highlighting the absence of a national carrier after Air India's privatisation, he added, "But at the same time, we don't have a national airline. So, we have to bank on these private players."
Calling on the government to act, he said, "I think IndiGo can correct its infrastructure and position. Union Ministry must take care of it. We don't have any other option left..."
His remarks come amid large-scale disruptions at airports across the country, where passengers have been left stranded due to long delays and sudden cancellations by the airline.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also criticised the airline for the chaos caused to passengers.
In a post on X on Thursday, she said, "Indigo Airlines operations have been badly hit, leading to massive passenger distress. I have repeatedly raised concerns over the duopoly that prevails in the air, which leads to higher air fares, poor infrastructure, and flight cancellations."
She further added, "It's a shame and I hope the aviation minister will give a suo moto statement on this issue in the parliament."
The operational turmoil has triggered scrutiny not just from political leaders but also from industry bodies.
In addition, the Airline Pilots' Association of India (ALPA India) on Thursday reiterated concerns regarding nationwide disruptions, stating that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) must consider pilot adequacy while approving airline schedules under the Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS).
In its statement, ALPA India said, "The situation concerning the recent flight cancellations across India, allegedly attributed to pilot shortage due to new Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL) norms, raises significant questions about the airline's management, regulatory oversight by the DGCA, and market fairness."
Further stressing the need for proactive planning, the pilots' body added, "The core question is whether airlines' current pilot shortage is due to a failure in planning or a calculated strategy. It is more likely a combination of factors... This situation points to a failure of proactive resource planning by dominant airlines, potentially exacerbated by an effort to pressurise the regulator to dilute the promulgated FDTL norms for commercial gain."
The disruptions continue to cause widespread inconvenience to passengers nationwide, prompting calls for accountability and policy review. (ANI)
