Karimnagar (Telangana) [India], August 25 (ANI): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Mahesh on Sunday questioned the legitimacy of BJP MP and Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay's victory in Karimnagar, alleging it was achieved through fake votes.
Speaking at the Janahita Padayatra on Sunday, Mahesh claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has exposed cases of fake votes elsewhere and expressed suspicion that similar tactics were used in Karimnagar.
He said, "Will BJP MP Bandi Sanjay really win here? How did he rise from being a councillor to becoming an MP? It was only because of fake votes that he secured victory. Rahul Gandhi has already shown an example of fake votes, and similarly, here in Karimnagar, I suspect Bandi Sanjay also won through fake votes."
He also alleged that "eight of the MPs who secured victory did so through fake votes."
Mahesh also challenged Bandi Sanjay's claim of belonging to the Backwards Class, stating, "Bandi Sanjay claims to be from the Backwards Class, but I question him -- from where are you, Backwards Class, Bandi Sanjay Deshmukh?"
The accusations come amid the allegations of "vote theft" claims made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, later on August 17 refuted all the claims and termed allegations of bias by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha an "insult" to the Constitution of India.
CEC also asked Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to either furnish a signed affidavit or apologise to the nation for his remarks.
"An affidavit will have to be given or an apology should be made to the country. Teesra koi vikalp nahi (There is no third option.) If the affidavit is not received within seven days, it means that all these allegations are baseless." CEC Gyanesh Kumar said while addressing the media persons. (ANI)
