"Hoped MP Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah would be removed from his post": SP MP Awadhesh Prasad

Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Awadhesh Prasad on Saturday expressed his displeasure over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not removing Madhya Pradesh Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah from his post following his controversial remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who was one of the two women officers who briefed the media initially about Operation Sindoor along with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. He strongly criticised Shah's statement, stating nothing could have been more insulting than calling Colonel Qureshi the "sister of terrorists."

Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 17 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Awadhesh Prasad on Saturday expressed his displeasure over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not removing Madhya Pradesh Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah from his post following his controversial remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who was one of the two women officers who briefed the media initially about Operation Sindoor along with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. He strongly criticised Shah's statement, stating nothing could have been more insulting than calling Colonel Qureshi the "sister of terrorists."
"Nothing could have been more insulting than calling Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who made history, a sister of terrorists. We hoped that such a Minister (MP Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah) would be removed from his post by the MP's Chief Minister," Prasad told ANI.
"We hoped that he would be removed from the party for six years. But nothing of the sort happened. Instead, their other Minister, the Dy CM of MP, gave a questionable statement about the Army...The High Court should take serious action (against Vijay Shah) and set a judicial example before the country," he added.
On Thursday, the Samajwadi Party protested against Shah's remarks by placing a banner outside their office in Lucknow.
The banner read, "Sofiya ka apmaan, desh ka apmaan hai. BJP desh se maafi manage" (Insulting Sofiya is an insult to the country. BJP, please manage to apologise to the country).
Kunwar Vijay Shah sparked controversy when his speech went viral on social media. In his clarification, Shah said his comments were taken out of context and were meant to praise Colonel Qureshi's bravery.
However, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had slammed Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav over his recent remark on Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Air Marshal AK Bharti.
Hitting out at Ram Gopal Yadav, CM Yogi shared a post on his official 'X' handle and mentioned that the Army's uniform should not be seen through a "casteist" lens. He said that every soldier of the Indian Army performs national duty and is not a representative of any "caste" or "religion."
"The uniform of the army is not seen through a casteist lens. Every soldier of the Indian army performs national duty and is not a representative of any caste or religion", CM Yogi wrote in his 'X' post.
Furthermore, CM Yogi highlighted that Ram Gopal Yadav's remarks not only highlight the "narrow-mindedness" of the Samajwadi Party but it is also a "grave insult" to the valour of the army and the country's identity. (ANI)
