Hope Govt. has admitted 'muscular approach' failed in J-K: Chidambaram

New Delhi [India], October 23 (ANI): With the appointment of former Intelligence Bureau (IB) director Dineshwar Sharma as the interlocutor of Jammu and Kashmir, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Monday teared into the Central Government and said he hoped that it has finally admitted that the 'muscular approach has failed in Jammu and Kashmir.'

Chidambaram, during his tenure as the home minister from 2008 to 2012 in the UPA Government, had formed a three-member committee of interlocutors for a dialogue on Kashmir

"With appointment of interlocutor, I hope government has finally admitted 'muscular approach' has failed in J&K," senior Congress leader tweeted.

He further tweeted: "From 'No talks' to 'Talks with all stakeholders' is a major victory for those who had strongly argued for a political solution in J&K".

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Centre had decided to start a sustained dialogue in Jammu and Kashmir and added that former IB director Dineshwar Sharma would be the representative from the Government of India.

"The government has decided to start a sustained dialogue in Jammu and Kashmir. Former IB director Dineshwar Sharma will be Government of India's representative. Rank of Dineshwar Sharma will be equivalent to that of a Cabinet Secretary," the Home Minister said while addressing a press conference here.

He added that Sharma would initiate the dialogue with the elected representatives of Jammu and Kashmir, political parties, different organisations and public.

The Home Minister said that as the government's representative, Sharma would initiate the sustained interaction and dialogue to understand legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
