I had the good fortune of serving under him as the Health Minister of India from 2004-2009. The first day I met him after being sworn in as a minister I asked him what should I do. He asked me to take care of the rural healthcare. It was after this we launched a rural healthcare mission. He gave me 100% freedom to work for the country. It was because of him I could roll out '108' ambulance service, eradication of Polio, ban on smoking in public places etc. He was like a fatherly figure to me."
