Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 1 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday watched a special screening of the short film "The Last Drop" at his official residence, Oak Over Shimla, according to a release.
The film, featuring Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) fame Arunoday Sharma, focuses on the pressing global issue of melting glaciers and climate change. Directed by Paras Prakash, the 25-minute film will be officially launched today during The Great Himalayan Water Festival in Shimla.
The Chief Minister lauded the film and extended his best wishes for its success. He emphasised that global warming was one of the most critical challenges of the modern era and collective efforts were essential to combat its far-reaching impacts. He appreciated the creative initiative taken to raise awareness on climate issues, especially among younger generations, the release stated.
CM Sukhu said that the state had already begun experiencing the adverse effects of global warming. To mitigate potential loss of life and property, the government was implementing an Early Warning System (EWS), which would enhance real-time monitoring, forecasting and issuance of timely alerts, enabling early action and reducing the scale of disaster-related damage.
Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Arunoday Sharma's parents Jagdish Sharma and Mamta Paul along-with members of the film's production team were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Himachal Pradesh cabinet, in its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, decided to introduce OBC reservation in the upcoming Urban Local Bodies elections. To facilitate this, it also approved the constitution of a Backwards Classes Commission to compile accurate data on the population of backwards classes before finalising the reservation roster.
The Cabinet further recommended to the Governor to convene the Monsoon Session of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha from August 18 to September 2, 2025.
It also granted a one-time relaxation of two years in the upper age limit for aspirants appearing for the competitive examination for TGT and JBT posts, to be conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog. (ANI)
