Hijab row's Muskaan welcomes Karnataka govt decision, says "I will continue my studies again"

Mandya (Karnataka) [India], December 23 (ANI): Muskaan Khan, the girl who was praised by Al-Qaeda chief Ayman Al Zawahiri in a video statement on the hijab row, on Saturday welcomed the Karnataka government's decision to withdraw the hijab ban imposed by the previous BJP government and said that she'll continue her studies again.
During the protests in Karnataka over the Hijab row, Muskaan was heckled by a group of students wearing saffron shawls. The group shouted 'Jai Sri Ram' slogans to which the girl retorted by shouting 'Allah hu Akbar'.
Zawahiri in a video had praised student Muskaan Khan for standing in defence of the headscarf.
Muskan was a second-year B.Com student studying in a private college. She left her studies in between due to the hijab controversy.
Welcoming the Karnataka government's decision, Muskaan said, "I welcome CM Siddaramaiah's decision. I will continue my studies again."
Mohammed Hussain Khan, father of Muskaan Khan, also thanked the state government and said, "CM's decision is welcomed. My daughter received various offers from different colleges but we rejected all of them. Her education was delayed by one year due to the hijab controversy. From now she'll study in Mandya."
"God bless those who are opposing this decision. Let's fight and live together," Khan added.
Earlier on Friday, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah announced that the state government will withdraw the order banning hijab in schools and colleges in the state. He stated, "The choice of clothes is one's prerogative".
The Chief Minister said he has directed officials to withdraw the order banning hijab, a headscarf wrapped around the head by some Muslim women, brought in by the previous BJP government in 2022.
The previous BJP government in the State had imposed a hijab ban on students in educational institutions. The matter reached the Karnataka High Court which also upheld the ban imposed by the then BJP government. In this regard, the Supreme Court had delivered a split verdict leading to the Karnataka High Court being upheld. (ANI)
