"Highly condemnable...urge Delhi Police to take strictest possible action": Dushyant Chautala over attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta

Former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister and Jannayak Janata Party Chief (JJP) Dushyant Chautala on Wednesday condemned the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, calling it a "great threat to the future of democracy". He urged the Delhi Police to take strict action against the perpetrators.

Jhajjar (Haryana) [India], August 21 (ANI): Former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister and Jannayak Janata Party Chief (JJP) Dushyant Chautala on Wednesday condemned the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, calling it a "great threat to the future of democracy". He urged the Delhi Police to take strict action against the perpetrators.
"The incident is highly condemnable, and the rise of such incidents in elected politics is in itself a great threat to the future of democracy. I strongly condemn it and urge the Delhi Police to take the strictest possible action in this matter," Chautala told ANI.
Meanwhile, CM Gupta, breaking her silence hours after the attack stated that she was "shocked", and was feeling better.
The CM also remarked that the attack was a "cowardly attempt" on her work for the welfare of the people of the national capital.
Delhi CM shared a post on X, saying, "The attack on me during this morning's public hearing was not just an attack on me, but a cowardly attempt on our resolve to serve Delhi and work for the welfare of the people. Naturally, I was in shock after this attack, but now I am feeling better. I request all my well-wishers not to trouble themselves by coming to meet me."
She added that she'll soon join the work again. "I will soon be seen working among you again. Such attacks can never break my spirit or my resolve to serve the people. Now, I will be among you with even more energy and dedication than before. Public hearings and the resolution of people's problems will continue with the same seriousness and commitment as before. Your trust and support are my greatest strength," X post read.
The Delhi Chief Minister also expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their good wishes and blessings. "I express my heartfelt gratitude for your immense love, blessings, and good wishes," X post further read.
Delhi Police arrested the accused Rajesh Khimji, and a case has been registered against him under section 109(1) Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (Attempt to murder) at the Civil Lines police station. (ANI)
