New Delhi [India], August 20 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal condemned the attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta stating that in democracy there can be differences of opinion, but there is no place for violence.
He expressed confidence in the Delhi Police to take appropriate action on the matter and wished for CM Rekha Gupta's well-being.
"The attack on Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is highly condemnable. In a democratic system, differences of opinion and opposition are acceptable, but there can be no place for violence. I am confident that the Delhi Police will take appropriate action. I hope the Chief Minister is completely safe and healthy," Kejriwal wrote on 'X'.
AAP Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj also expressed disappointment over the incident stating that there is no place for such an attack in society and these are not the principles taught by Mahatma Gandhi.
He further raised questions on the group "patronising" the violence mentioning that violence is not only when the Chief Minister is attacked, but also when the police took violent actions against SSC students and teachers.
"This is condemnable. There is no place for any kind of violence in our society. This was taught to us by Mahatma Gandhi. The question is which group is patronising violence. Violence is not only when a CM is attacked, but also when police action is taken against SSC students and teachers. The farmers protested for their rights, but the police took violent action against them - this was also violence. The police have no right to treat citizens in this manner", Saurabh Bharadwaj said in a self-made video.
Bharadwaj further referred to a previous incident when a BJP supporter attacked Arvind Kejriwal during election campaign. He recalled that at time the BJP people said that the Delhi people are upset with him; however, in CM Rekha Gupta's case his party will not do the same.
"During an election program, a BJP supporter had attacked Arvind Kejriwal. At the time, the BJP said that the person was a civil defence volunteer who was upset with Arvind Kejriwal. Whenever there was an attack on Arvind Kejriwal, the BJP said that the people of Delhi were upset with him. We won't say that people of Delhi are upset with Rekha Gupta ji, and this is why an attack happened. An attack on anyone is wrong. We are supporting the BJP at this time as we believe that, in principle, violence is wrong, and all parties should condemn such an act....," Bharadwaj said. (ANI)
