New Delhi, Mar 9 (ANI) Was it ethical on part of the President of the India International Centre (IIC) to invite President of India Ram Nath Kovind to the prestigious cultural centre at a time when elections are taking place there?
This question is being asked by those contesting against the current trustees headed by N N Vohra as the President of IIC.
The process of elections to the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee for a two year-term starting April is currently underway at the IIC.
According to the election schedule available on the IIC’s website, “physical voting at the IIC (main) for the elections to the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee is slated from March 3, 2019 till April 1, 2019.
Membership of the IIC and elections to its managing body are considered a matter of status.
Amid this process, Vohra invited the President of India who paid the visit yesterday.
According to sources, Kovind, who was unaware of the elections being underway, had tea with the trustees during his 30-minute stay at the IIC.
When contacted for his comment, Press Secretary to the President of India Ashok Malik merely told ANI that Kovind paid the visit at the invitation of Vohra.
Vohra, former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, is the President of the IIC since June 2017. He took over after his predecessor former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee stepped down from the post.
The IIC Board of Trustees comprises 10 members, including five life trustees and two elected trustees. It also has three officials of the IIC as members.
Besides Vohra and Sorabjee, the other three life trustees are former Supreme Court Judge Justice B N Srikrishna, Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran and art historian Kapila Vatsyayan. (ANI)
