Heavy rain causes severe waterlogging in Amritsar, IMD issues nationwide alert

As per the predictions by the IMD, intense spells of rain could be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms in several regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Punjab and other areas.

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], June 30 (ANI): Heavy rain lashed Amritsar on Sunday, leading to waterlogging in different parts of the city.
Visuals from near the Golden Temple showed cars stuck on the road due to the heavy rains.
Additionally, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across several regions of the country today.
Recent satellite images indicate the presence of convective clouds, signalling the possibility of light to moderate rainfall at several locations.
According to IMD predictions, intense spells of rain could be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, cloud-to-ground lightning, and gusty winds in Punjab, the adjoining state of Himachal Pradesh, southwest and extreme northwest Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, south Gujarat, south Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, south Karnataka, north Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya.
Additionally, areas of Odisha, Konkan, Goa, south Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Lakshadweep, and the Nicobar Islands could expect light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, cloud-to-ground lightning, and gusty winds.
Earlier this week, Delhi recorded its highest rainfall since 1986. According to IMD scientist Soma Sen on Saturday, the city is expected to receive heavy rainfall for the next two days.
Furthermore, the heavy rains in Delhi have left the city waterlogged. Services in the operation theatres of the Neuroscience Centre of the All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have become non-functional due to non-functioning air conditioners and water seepage in the walls.
In a discussion with the Nursing Superintendent (NS OT Sister in-charge) of the Cardiothoracic and Neurosciences Centre AIIMS, the Master of Surgery of the CN Centre, and the Chief of the CN Centre, the decision was made to halt neurosurgeries due to the situation.
Patients were referred to Safdarjung Hospital and government hospitals.
The heavy rains in Delhi have led to severe waterlogging and casualties, prompting the government to take measures to tackle the situation. (ANI)
