"Heartbreaking...": Mallikarjun Kharge condoles death of nine children in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district

Nine children died following the collapse of a dilapidated house due to heavy rains in Shahpur, Sagar district, on Sunday.

New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): Calling the deaths of nine children in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district "heartbreaking", Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured victims.
Nine children died following the collapse of a dilapidated house due to heavy rains in Shahpur, Sagar district, on Sunday.
"The news of the death of 9 children due to the collapse of a wall due to heavy rains in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, is extremely heartbreaking. Many people have also been injured. Our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and we pray for the speedy recovery of the injured victims," Kharge posted on X.
The Congress leader also requested that the government and administration provide immediate compensation.
"The government and administration are requested to provide immediate compensation and take appropriate steps to prevent such incidents from happening again due to heavy rains and bad weather. Such negligence is unfortunate," he wrote on X.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the deaths of nine children. He announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each for the families from the government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed condolences to the kin of the nine children who lost their lives after the wall collapse in Sagar district.
In a post on X from the Prime Minister's Office, it said, "The accident caused by the wall collapse in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, is heartbreaking. My condolences to the bereaved families of the children who lost their lives. May God give them strength to bear this pain. I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured."
PM Modi has announced Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. "The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the mishap in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. The injured will be given Rs 50,000," an official statement from PMO said.
Earlier, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, expressed her grief over the deaths of the nine children.
Taking to X, Murmu said, "I am saddened by the news of the death of many innocent children in a heart-wrenching accident in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. I pray that God gives strength to the bereaved parents and family members to bear this pain. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured children."
According to officials, the incident occurred around 8:30 am, with initial reports suggesting the collapse was caused by the heavy downpour the previous night. (ANI)
