New Delhi [India], July 9 (ANI): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report, which was carried on July 5, alleging that the infrastructure of the Civil Hospital in Jind, Haryana is in "deplorable condition".
Notably, there are 55 sanctioned posts of doctors in the hospital out of which only 19 posts are filled. Reportedly, about 2000 patients visit the hospital daily, however, most of them are referred to other hospitals as it has neither proper medical equipment nor medicines. The hospital premises also face monkey menace, which has further added to their woes, a press release by the NHRC said.
The Commission has observed the contents of the news report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of the right to health and medical care of the patients which are basic human rights of the citizens.
Accordingly, the Commission has also issued a notice to T.V.S.N. Prasad, Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana calling for a detailed report within one week.
The NHRC also took to its official X handle and posted, "NHRC notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana over the reported poor infrastructural and medical facilities in the Civil Hospital, Jind, Haryana."
According to the press release, the report is expected to include the steps taken/proposed to be taken to improve the overall condition of the Jind Civil Hospital so that patients can get medical care without any difficulty and are not referred to the other hospitals due to the non-availability of doctors and other necessary life-saving facilities.
