Chandigarh [India], October 11 (ANI): Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Saturday that IPS officer Y Puran Kumar's alleged suicide has "shaken the nation's soul."
Surjewala, who was part of a Congress delegation visiting the late IPS officer's family, told reporters, "Haryana ADGP Y Puran Kumar's suicide has shaken the nation's soul... In Haryana, when an ADGP rank officer is not being given justice, you can imagine the situation of a common man... If a man as highly qualified and decorated as he cannot be given justice, then who will be?"
He further said that the late senior police official was a victim of caste-discrimination and his death mirrored the situation of an ordinary man in the country.
"If a senior officer such as him can fall prey to caste discrimination and can be forced to commit suicide, you can have a rough idea about the situation of the common man in the country, and especially in Haryana... What is the reason that he did not have permission to go to the temple and pray, what was the reason that he was not allowed to go home when his father passed away? What was the reason that his letter addressing the issue of casteism went unanswered by the government?... IPS Y Puran Kumar's body was forcibly taken from Sector 16 to PGI without his family's consent...," the Congress MP further said.
Chandigarh Police has formed a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a comprehensive and impartial probe into the matter.
The SIT, formed under the supervision of Inspector General of Police (IGP) UT Chandigarh Pushpendra Kumar, will investigate the case registered at Police Station Sector-11 (West) under Sections 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3(1)(r) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
