Haryana: Case registered against 18 farmers for stubble-burning

Karnal (Haryana) [India], October 6 (ANI): A case has been lodged against 18 farmers, who allegedly practised stubble-burning in Haryana's Karnal district.

A fine has also been imposed on the farmers, along with the administration giving them a warning.

The farmers of five villages had allegedly collaborated with a private company for working on a pilot project.

In order to save the environment and follow the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders, the district administration has adopted a strict attitude in Karnal.

Deputy Commissioner Aditya Dahiya said that despite the order to not burn the crops, the farmers did and hence, a case of violation under section-144 has been registered against them.

Apart from this, the environmental penalty has also been imposed separately under the NGT orders on these farmers.

All the village secretaries and the officials of the pollution control department have been instructed to take an immediate action if anyone is seen practising stubble-burning.

The Deputy Commissioner asserted that stubble-burning is a big loss to the environment.

Earlier, on the orders of the state government, it was stated that if a farmer burns the remnants of crops of up to two acres, he'll have to pay a fine of Rs. 2,500 as penalty; for 2 to 5 acres, Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 15,000 for more than five acres, in violation of which, a case will be lodged under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
