Haryana: Ambala witnesses waterlogging due to heavy rainfall

As heavy rains lashed Ambala city on Sunday waterlogging was witnessed in several parts of the city and normal life was disrupted.

Ambala (Haryana) [India], August 12 (ANI): Heavy rains lashed Ambala on Sunday disrupting normal life and causing waterlogging in several parts of the city.
Haryana Minister Aseem Goyal took stock of the situation.
Haryana Minister Aseem Goyal said, "In the last 24 hours it has rained more than 220 mm. Any city can withstand up to 50 mm of rainfall in 24 hours but the rainfall has been 5 times more. There is a trend of cloud bursting. Certainly, there has been waterlogging in many places due to heavy rains. Our departments are trying to handle the situation."

He also said that tenders would be opened for some projects that have been cleared and this would provide relief.
He further said, "I have spoken to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and he has instructed senior officials to visit the spot, they are coming in the morning. We are going to prepare a design so that such a problem does not occur in the future, the government is serious about this."
He said that some of the pumps of the Municipal Corporation were damaged but now 48 pumps are working.
"There have been shortcomings on the part of the Municipal Corporation and it would be corrected," he added.
Commuters were seen wading through water-logged roads as heavy rainfall hit several parts of the city.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain over parts of Kurukshetra, Ambala, Yamunanagar, and Panchkula.
"Thunderstorm\Lightning with Moderate Rain very likely over parts of Kurukshetra, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Panchkula," IMD Chandigarh posted on X.
IMD Regional Centre New Delhi also predicted moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and lightning across several parts of Haryana.
"Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and lightning is very likely to occur at Rajaund, Assandh, Jind, Gohana, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar (Haryana) Kotputli, Alwar, Viratnagar (Rajasthan)" Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi posted on X. (ANI)
