Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 13 (ANI): After the Indian Institute of Technology Madras bagged the top spot in the latest National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF) rankings, Kamakoti, Director of the institute, said that the reason for this achievement is the students, staff, alumnus, state and central government and all have worked cohesively.
IIT Madras bagged rank No.1 in 'Overall' category for the 6th consecutive year and in the 'Engineering' category for the 9th year in a row in NIRF 2024.
The director said, "It's a happy day for us. The reason for this achievement is our students, staff, alumni, state and central government. We have worked cohesively to get this achievement."
"NIRF is an important ranking mechanism which is needed for our country. We are taking many initiatives in which 30,000 students are there in the data science stream where more than 5000 students who are below the poverty line are getting scholarships. We have tried many things in our IITM and started many courses and departments in the last two years alone. Our perception and outreach are very helpful in it. We have many successful start-ups in our IITM like Agnicool, hyperloop etc," he added.
Kamakoti further said that it was easy to be in first position and they want to maintain it.
"There are many competitions for us. We will participate in nation's needs in every stream and whatever nation has on Academic requirements, our participation will be there. Every child born in India should at least have an undergraduate education in our IIT Madras," he added.
Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister, announced the results of the ninth edition of NIRF India Ranking Results on August 12 in New Delhi in the presence of Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region and other stakeholders and gave away the prizes.
While IIT Madras bagged the first position as the top engineering institute, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay clinched the second and third positions, respectively.
In the management category, IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta are among the top five.
In its ninth edition, the ranking framework evaluates institutions on five broad parameters: teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice, graduation outcomes; outreach; inclusivity; and perception.
Three new categories were introduced this year, taking the total to 16.
The higher educational institutes are listed under 16 categories: overall, universities, medical, engineering, management, law, architecture colleges, research institutions, pharmacy, dental, agriculture and allied sectors, innovation, state universities, open universities, and skill universities.
