Mehsana (Gujarat) [India], June 13 (ANI): Sanket Goswami was among the 241 passengers who were killed in the deadly crash of the Air India flight 171 that took place near Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport.
Goswami was headed to London for his studies. A family member stated that the young student leaves behind his younger sister and was the only son of his father.
"My nephew lost his only son, Sanket Goswami. He was going to London to study. He had worked very hard to get to study in London and was very excited...We got the message of the crash the moment we reached our home..." the family member said, speaking to the media.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and met Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the lone person who miraculously survived the plane crash.
Kumar, a British national of Indian origin, was seated in row 11 at the left window seat in the flight's economy class section that's positioned right behind an emergency exit. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane, airline authorities said.
The Prime Minister, who arrived in the city earlier today, also met with others admitted in the same hospital, with injuries sustained after the Air India flight to London crashed, soon after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport, into a medical college complex in Meghaninagar nearby.
Before arriving at the hospital, PM Modi inspected the plane crash site and took stock of the ground situation. He also held a review meeting with the officials at the airport in Ahmedabad
The Prime Minister took to X to share photos of him inspecting the crash site."
Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams are working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy," PM Modi posted on X.
He also posted, "We are all devastated by the air tragedy in Ahmedabad. The loss of so many lives in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner is beyond words. Condolences to all the bereaved families. We understand their pain and also know that the void left behind will be felt for years to come. Om Shanti." (ANI)
