Gurugram (Haryana) [India], September 21 (ANI): The family members of the 22-year-old biker, who died in a collision with a car driving from the wrong side near Cyber City in Gurugram, raised questions on the police investigation on Saturday.
The family said that the police had not contacted them and further questioned the release of the accused.
Mayank Garg, the elder brother of the deceased Akshat Garg, said "We did not understand the law in our case, if we go out on the road without a license, we get a challan, the police stop you, and a case is also filed, but here such a big incident happened, a person died and the police did not even ask for his (accused) license and later released him."
The incident occurred last Sunday, September 15, at around 6 AM
"We got a call from his friend around 7:00 that Akshat has met with an accident in Gurugram and he is very serious in the hospital, when we reached the hospital, we came to know that he has died. Akshat's group of bikers is very big but that day only one of his friends was with him, from there he used to meet all the bikers near Aravali Hills," Mayank Garg said.
Deceased's brother further said that the police did not contact the family after the accident and alleged that investigation officer is not picking up their phone.
"The police did not contact us, on the same day when the accident happened, we talked to them on the same day, they said that we will take further action according to the report that comes and now the police is not even talking to us, even our investigation officer is not picking up the phone," deceased's brother said.
He further demanded a speedy investigation from the police.
"We demand from the police that the investigation that has been slowed down should be speeded up, we do not know why they are doing it so slowly, what is their fear? I think the police will have to be a little fast in the investigation, the more you delay the investigation, the more the accused will keep running away," he said.
The deceased was an experienced professional biker and was working in a travel agency.
On Saturday, the police officials said that a legal action has been started after registering the case.
Speaking to ANI, ACP DLF Gurugram Vikas Kaushik said, "This incident happened last Sunday, the deceased was going on his motorcycle near Cyber City and a black coloured vehicle came from the wrong side, due to which he had an accident and died on the spot. He was taken to the hospital but from there he was declared dead. So in this regard, we have started legal action and after registering a case under the law, we are taking further action."
The police officials also said that they have taken the blood sample of the accused and if any trace for alcohol is found, then a "necessary course of action" will be taken against them.
Speaking on the accused the Police said, "The 25-year-old accused said that he was driving on the wrong side to save his time. We are investigating the cause; however, no points can justify driving on the wrong side. Also, Gurugram Police takes strict action against those who break the traffic rules. In the last month, the Gurugram Police issued 16,000+ challans for wrong-side driving. We have done their medical and taken their blood sample. If any trace for alcohol is found, then we will take necessary course of action, currently report is pending for the same." (ANI)
