Mehsana (Gujarat) [India], September 3 (ANI): Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Gujarat's Mehsana district lies the ancient Hindu temple, Sri Bahucharaji Mata Mandir. Steeped in history and revered by countless devotees, the temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, is set to undergo a significant transformation.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the temple's renovation in a solemn ceremony. Under this phase, the spire's height will be increased to 86 feet and 1 inch, with the temple being rebuilt at a cost of Rs76.51 crore.
The District Development Officer (DDO) of Mehsana, Dr. Hasrat Jasmine, highlighted the temple's immense popularity and the expected increase in footfall.

"Like Ambaji, Becharaji is also famous among devotees. People have immense faith and even come here on foot from distant areas. This project will not only develop the temple itself but also the surrounding areas. We anticipate increased footfall, and the planning is being done with that in mind," the DDO said.

Janakbhai Joshi, a priest, explained the historical significance of the temple, where pilgrimages are made for vows fulfilled and boons granted. The goddess is also a principal deity of the hijra community, who hold the temple in particular reverence.
"This temple is renowned for the many stories associated with it. The shrine near the tree at the back is the main site of the goddess. It marks the place where one of Sati Mata's hands fell, making it a site of immense historical importance, dating back 5,500 years. From that hand, or Bahuchar, Bahuchar Mata was created," the priest said.
Devotees have expressed excitement about the project, believing that the revamp will not only enhance the temple's beauty but also attract more pilgrims from afar.
A devotee, Ritaben Mali, said, "We feel our village will witness more beautification and an influx of pilgrims. People visit from distant places, and with the temple being expanded, it will be visible from 5-10 kilometres away. We believe our children will see this temple in an even better state than we have. Our generation has seen it renovated once before, and the next generation will witness its further beautification."
As the Bahucharaji Mata Mandir prepares for its transformation, it is clear that this ancient shrine is poised to play an even more significant role in the religious and cultural landscape of Gujarat. The reconstruction project is not just about physical changes but also about preserving and promoting the rich heritage associated with this sacred place. (ANI)
