Navsari (Gujarat) [India], July 27 (ANI): Amid torrential rains in the state, Gujarat's Navsari district has experienced severe waterlogging, tasking the National Disaster Response Force to evacuate people from the inundated areas of the district.
The NDRF evacuated people who were stuck in the inundated areas of Navsari and the rescue operation is still underway.
The team rescued five people, including a child and an ailing woman, from the flood-affected area in Mithila Nagari of Navsari. At least 30 people have been rescued from here.
DR Patel, Probationary Deputy SP, Navsari Town Police, said, "We had received information that around four people are marooned in Mithila Nagri. Together with the NDRF team, we went there to rescue them. One entire floor was submerged there. We rescued them later."
Amid the deluge like conditions, Navsari Municipality prepared 20,000 food packets for the people who are stuck in the flood-affected areas in the city.
Meenal Desai, Navsari Municipality chief, said, "Since morning, we have been preparing food packets. In the morning, we prepared 20,000 food packets and now also 20,000 food packets are being prepared. These packets will be sent to the flood-affected areas."
In wake of the rainfall situation, District Collector Kshipra S Agre today inspected shelter homes set up for the rain affected people.
While speaking to ANI, Agre said, "110 people have been rescued and shifted to shelter houses here. The Municipal Corporation, Police, and Administration are working together and urging people to shift to shelter homes as a precaution."
She appealed to residents of the Navsari area to cooperate with the officials and assured them that they would be treated well in the shelter homes.
On Friday, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel also visited flood-affected areas of the Borsas area in the Anand district.
"Water has been filled in the low-lying areas due to heavy rainfall. Wherever garbage has spread, to stop the water-borne disease from spreading, the Arogya team, along with the doctors, are there," he said.
It is pertinent to note that heavy rains have wreaked havoc in various districts of Gujarat, leading to several to as many as eight deaths due to the deluge, taking the death toll to 61, officials said on Wednesday, July 24.
Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted an aerial survey of villages in the coastal districts of Saurashtra, especially Jamnagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka, to assess the situation caused by heavy rains. (ANI)
