Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi convened a meeting on Monday to discuss flood relief efforts in Vadodara, as the state continues to experience heavy rainfall.

Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], September 2 (ANI): Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi convened a meeting on Monday to discuss flood relief efforts in Vadodara, as the state continues to experience heavy rainfall.
Speaking to ANI, Sanghavi assured that the state government would ensure that the affected people receive the necessary assistance from the insurance companies. He added that the government will ensure that relief material is being provided to the flood-affected people.
"A meeting was convened to discuss the flood situation...Details were taken on the restoration process. The first round of the restoration process has been completed...In the second round of restoration, it will be ensured that the people affected by floods get the required assistance from the insurance companies...It is being ensured that the relief material is being provided to the flood-affected people," Sanghavi told ANI.
Meanwhile, Vegetable prices soar in Gujarat's Ahmedabad amid heavy rainfall in the state.
In another development, a 34-year-old home guard, identified as Devesh, died after being swept away in the heavy rains. The body of a home guard soldier was retrieved by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), NDRF officials confirmed on Sunday.
On September 1, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel appreciated the help of the Indian Army in rescue operations amid a flood-like situation in the state saying, "help of Indian Army has added great vigour to the state government's rescue operations."


Large parts of Gujarat have been ravaged by floods since August 27. The rising waters in 6 districts of Vadodara, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Surat, Dwarka and Kutch have disrupted life and left countless families needing help, the Indian Army said in a post on X.


Large numbers of troops and specialised equipment are deployed around the clock to rescue people. Indian Army is also providing food as well as door-to-door medical assistance, they added in the post.
Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) constituted an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (ICMT) to assess the damage caused by rainfall and floods in Gujarat. The IMCT, led by the executive director of the National Insititute of Disaster Management (NIDM), will be visiting the flood-affected districts of the statement, according to a statement by the ministry.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and assured him of all possible support and assistance from the Central government. (ANI)
