Gujarat HC rejects accused Tathya Patel's bail petition in Ahmedabad Bridge accident

Speaking about the case, Darshan Vegad, Counsel for the Deceased Family, High Court, said, "Today, a hearing regarding Patel's bail was held in Namdar High Court. After hearing both parties in this hearing, the Gujarat High Court has not considered the bail application and has placed an order of rejection."

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], December 15 (ANI): The Gujarat High Court on Friday rejected the bail application of Tathya Patel, who is accused of rash driving that resulted in the deaths of nine people on the ISKCON Bridge in Ahmedabad on June 20, 2023.
The application to grant bail was filed keeping the age of Tathya Patel in mind.
Speaking about the case, Darshan Vegad, lawyer for the victims, said, "Today, a hearing regarding Patel's bail was held in Namdar High Court. After hearing both parties in this hearing, the Gujarat High Court has not considered the bail application and has placed an order of rejection."
Earlier in July this year, a Gujarat court sent Tathya Patel to judicial remand.
Tathya's father, Pragnesh Patel, had also been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
The accident pertains to June this year around 1 a.m. at the ISKCON bridge on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway.
According to police, nine people were crushed to death when a speeding car hit a crowd gathered there following an accident between another vehicle and a truck.
After the arrest, Gujarat Police brought accused Tathya Patel and his father to the crime spot where the accident occurred.
Taking note of the accident, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
The chief minister had also given immediate instructions to Health Minister Rushikesh Patel to reach Sola Civil Hospital to help the families of the victims.
CM Bhupendra Patel also gave instructions to the Chief Secretary to strengthen coordination between police, road building, the urban development department and local authorities regarding CCTV camera networks and light poles on highways in cities to monitor the speed of vehicles on highways across the state, including highways passing through cities.
