Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 20 (ANI): A group of people in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district staged a protest on Tuesday against Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj over his controversial remark against Islam and Prophet Mohammed.
The group of people demonstrated at Jiwaji University gate here and also submitted a memorandum to Gwalior SP office, in the name of Nashik Commissioner of Police demanding legal action against Ramgiri Maharaj.
Speaking to ANI, one of the protesters, Yusuf Abbas, said, "We came to know via social media that there is a Baba in Nasik city of Maharashtra who has made derogatory remarks against our Prophet Mohammed. The name of Baba is Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj. Due to the remark, anger is spreading all over the world and in India. In view of it, today we protested in Gwalior and demanded that strict action should be taken against Baba."
The work of a saint baba is to maintain peace and unity but this baba is a hypocrite. These hypocrite babas are to break the unity of India and they are ending mutual brotherhood. He wants Hindus and Muslims to keep fighting in the country, Abbas said, adding that they believe that such hypocrites, irrespective of their religion or caste, should be sent to jail.
"We have given a memorandum to the Gwalior SP office in the name of Nashik Commissioner of Police. We demanded that an FIR should be lodged against him and he should be arrested," he added.
Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police ASP) Shiaz KM told ANI, "A Baba of Nashik named Ramgiri Maharaj had made a controversial remark against which a group of people from a community staged a protest here. They submitted a memorandum to SP Office Gwalior for Nashik Commissioner of Police. We will send the memorandum to Nashik through the proper channel. They demanded an FIR should be registered against the Maharaj."
Notably, Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj, during a recently held religious event in Mahrashtra's Nashik district, allegedly made derogatory remarks against Islam and Prophet Mohammed, which created tension between the two communities.
Multiple cases were registered against Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj in three different police stations in Mumbai for allegedly making objectionable remarks about Prophet Mohammad. (ANI)
