Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 5 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC and Spokesperson Sravan Dasoju on Friday alleged that backward class (BC) reservations were not being implemented in many educational institutions despite constitutional protection, University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, and intervention by the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) calling it a "gross betrayal" of social justice"
Speaking to ANI, the Other Backward Class (OBC) Reservations in Telangana State, Dasoju said, "Despite Constitutional protection to OBCs in the country, guidelines from the University Grants Commission, and intervention of the National Commission for Backwards Classes, today, in most educational institutions, BC reservations are not being implemented. It is a gross betrayal, breach of trust, and violation of the very principle of social justice."
He termed it especially unfortunate that such violations were happening in law institutions themselves and questioned as to why UGC is "sleeping" on the orders.
"What is unfortunate is that this saga of injustice is unfolding in institutions where the law is being taught... We fail to understand whether the UGC is sleeping on these orders or the government of India is not concerned about enforcing them."
Highlighting the plight of BC communities, the BRS spokesperson alleged that BCs were being denied their "basic right to education"
He said, "What sin have the BCs committed that they don't get their legitimate right? We are not asking for shares in anybody's assets. You're not going to give us a share in the political offices. Why are you denying us the basic right to study?"
"We have written a letter to the Union Minister for Education, requesting that they immediately intervene to ensure the implementation of BC reservations in Telangana and across the country," he said.
Meanwhile on Friday, according to a press note, Sravan Dasoju, along with Kiran Kumar Gowd (National President, All India OBC Students Association), N Shubhapradh Patel (Former Member, BC Commission), D Balraj Yadav (Former Chairman, Sheep & Goats Corporation), Gellu Srinivas Yadav (President, BRSV), and Ch Rakesh Kumar (Former Chairman, TSTS Corporation), strongly condemned the alleged denial of 27% OBC reservation in All India Quota admissions and 10% ST reservation in State Quota admissions at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, and other National Law Universities across the country.
Together, they described this as a direct assault on the Constitution, social justice, and the future of backward class youth. "According to NALSAR's own prospectus, OBC students are given only 18% seats in B.A. LL.B. and 20% in LL.M., instead of the mandated 27%. Even the State Quota fails to provide the required 10% reservation for ST students. This is nothing but a deliberate betrayal of the Constitution and a daylight robbery of the rights of backward classes," alleged Sravan. (ANI)
