Gold worth Rs 19.17 lakh seized at Trichy airport

The air customs authorities seized 306 grams of gold valued at Rs 19.17 lakh from a passenger who arrived at Trichy airport from Dubai, officials said.

Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu) [India], December 20 (ANI): The air customs authorities seized 306 grams of gold valued at Rs 19.17 lakh from a passenger who arrived at Trichy airport from Dubai, officials said on Wednesday.
According to the sleuths of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), the passenger was concealing the gold in his stomach in 20 oval-shaped packets by swallowing them.

"Based on specific intelligence, officers of AIU (Air Intelligence Unit), Trichy Airport, seized 306 grams of 24k Gold valued at Rs.19.17 lakh extracted from 20 oval-shaped packets of paste-like material concealed by a passenger in his stomach by swallowing," according to an official release.
"The passenger arrived from Dubai by Air India flight IX 612 to Trichy Airport on 16.12.2023, produced before Judicial Magistrate on suspicion and admitted to GH(General Hospital), Trichy to X-ray his body," the release said.
"The X-ray revealed the concealment of said 20 oval-shaped packets in the stomach by swallowing, which were recovered by doctors following proper medical procedures," the statement added. (ANI)
