Goa MP thanks Gadkari for dropping SSC as mandatory qualification for issuing certificates to seafarers

New Delhi [India], Mar 6 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Member of Parliament from South Goa Narendra Keshav Sawaikar on Wednesday thanked Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari for approving the omission of SSC as a mandatory qualification for issuing Continuous Discharge Certificates (CDCs) to seafarers.
In a letter addressed to Gadkari, Sawaikar wrote, ''I thank Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari for fulfilling the demand to dispense with SSC as mandatory qualification for issuing the CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate) to the seafarers.''
A Government of India order dated July 14, 2017, which came into effect from January 11, 2018, had made SSC mandatory for issuing CDCs.
“I have made representations to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari suggesting him to drop the said condition as the said eligibility condition was coming in way of the seafarers who were working on the international cruise ships before coming into force of the said rule. This had adversely affected the Goan seamen working on the cruise,” the letter read.
Stating that the issue was even raised in the Parliament, Sawaikar wrote, “Recently on representation Gadkari had assured to issue appropriate order dispensing with the said SSC eligibility condition.”
“The new order has come as a big relief to thousands of Goan as well as seamen from other parts of the country who are working on the cruise ship,” Sawaikar said. (ANI)
