Globalised compassion best gift India can give to world: Kailash Satyarthi

Gurugram (Haryana) [India], Feb.24 (ANI): Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi on Saturday said morality and humanity have become casualties of the modern times and believed that in this midst of growing materialism and apathy, India is one country that can project and promote what he called "the globalization of compassion".

"Education is one instrument which can provide solutions to many challenges of the world," said Satyarthi, and appealed to youth to take this mission of compassion and humanity out into the world of today and tomorrow.

He was addressing students of the fourth Convocation program of Amity University, Gurugram, Haryana.

"There is a huge economic power shift that is moving towards Asia. India is at the centre of where people want to be," he added.

He expressed hope youth will use this opportunity to experiment and excel.

Adi Godrej, Chairman of the Godrej Group, said, "You are graduating at a time when India offers great opportunity to you to contribute to nation building and achieving global eminence on strength of your innovative and enterprising geniuses. Now that Digital India, Startup India and Make in India are inspiring us all to build an India of our dreams, you therefore have a bright future ahead."

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman and Managing Director of the Bengaluru-based Biocon Limited, said, "The wealth of nation is education, and the new fuel that turns the wheel of economy is knowledge. The 21st century belongs to those who have an unquenchable desire to learn, question and solve problems."

Exhorting youngsters to be passionate about whatever they do, Shaw said, "Purposeful pursuit of passion is the only thing that you will ultimately find brings fulfillment as you look back at the journey of your life."

At the convocation, over 100 students were awarded doctorates, gold and other medals.

Dr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University, Gurugram, said, "I compliment all my students for having successfully earned the coveted degrees and medals, especially those who have reached the pinnacle of education and got doctorates. What makes this convocation special is the inspiration that our students get from leading luminaries who have excelled in their respective fields and set the highest standards of success."

Dr Ashok Chauhan, Founder President of Amity Group said, "What makes our universities unique is our incredible emphasis on human values - our ethos, respect to elders, faith in god, compassion - that help shape perfect human beings ready to take on the challenges of the world."
