Girl saved from selling kidney for marriage

New Delhi [India], October 17 (ANI): Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday saved a girl who succumbing to her boyfriend's demand for money, came to sell her kidney in Delhi.

The 21-year old Pushpa (Name changed) hailing from Bihar's Lakhisaray had fought with her parents and went to Muradabad to marry her boyfriend, when the latter demanded a sum of Rs 1,80,000.

In order to fulfill the demand, Pushpa came to Delhi's Lady Hardinge Hospital to sell her kidney. The doctor, suspecting a kidney racket, called Delhi Commission for Women's helpline number, as well as informed the police.

DCW reached the hospital and counselled Pushpa. She however refused the counseler's suggestion of filing an FIR against her boyfriend.

DCW also contacted Pushpa's parents with the help of police, who came to Delhi and took her back to Bihar.

The commission has forwarded the complaint details of the case to Bihar State Commission for Women, with a request to assist Pushpa in taking criminal action against the boy as well as for regular counseling of the girl.

DCW chairperson, Swati Jai Hind has commended the action of the doctor who gave information about the girl to the commission and the Police. (ANI)
