Gaya (Bihar) [India], September 30, (ANI): The Pitru Paksha fair in the city of Gaya is currently ongoing. Since September 17th, the fair has been celebrated in the city of Lord Vishnu, Gaya.
Every day, a large number of devotees from all over the country and the world come to Gaya to perform Pind Daan for their ancestors.
According to Hindu faith after death the soul of a human being still remains in the materialistic world. 'Pind Dan' gives the soul relief paving the way for its departure to a world of Peace.
Gaya is an extremely Holy place for offering Pind. Local and foreign pilgrims from various countries have arrived in Gaya to perform Pind Daan for their ancestors.
These foreign pilgrims have come to Moksha Dham Gayaji, the city of Lord Vishnu, via Varanasi, the city of Lord Shiva. They performed Pind Daan for their ancestors at Dev Ghat on Monday morning.
A total of 12 pilgrims have come to Gaya from abroad, representing different countries such as Russia, Uzbekistan, Nigeria, Germany, Ghana, and Africa.
Priest Acharya Loknath Gaur, who conducted the rituals, mentioned that all the foreign devotees had reached Gaya and had performed Pind Daan and Shraddha Karma for the peace of the souls of their ancestors.
They expressed their wish to perform Pind Daan for their ancestors and have now fulfilled it.
According to the Hindu calendar, Pitru Paksha or the 16-day lunar day period on Mahalaya is when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors (Pitras), marking the beginning of 'Devi Paksha', the day marked by the arrival of Goddess Durga. Devotees believe that 'Pind Daan' helps in attaining salvation to their ancestors and the way to heaven is paved for them.
Every year, large number of devotees on Wednesday took holy dip in the river Falgu and performed 'Pind Daan' in Bihar's Gaya on the last day of Pitru Paksha, also known as Sarva Pitru Amavasya. (ANI)
