Gap between police, citizens should be bridged: Shivraj Chouhan

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India] Jan. 19 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday said that it's time to look at the relationships between the law enforcement and the citizens.

"Police is responsible for the safety of people and I will say also for serving the people. Basic value in a democracy is to serve. The gap between the police force and people should be bridged", Chouhan said while addressing Indian Police Service (IPS) officers' meet here at Assembly Hall.

"When the Britishers founded Indian Police Service then their motive was different. They wanted to terrorise people to rule. We have seen that the gap between the people and police is still there. We have launched many initiatives to bridge that gap", he added.

In the two-day meet, over 200 IPS officers are participating with their families.

In the business session, the meet will discuss 'Liberalization of fundamentalism' and 'The Emerging Nature of Social Media'.

In the evening, a cultural programme will be organised at the Police Officer's Mess in which Chauhan will be present with his wife Sadhna Singh. The Chief Minister will also distribute awards.

On Saturday, fun games and a cricket match will be organised at the Motilal Nehru Stadium in which the families of the officers will also participate. In the evening, there will be a dinner party for the police officers and their families after a cultural programme. (ANI)
