New Delhi [India], September 9 (ANI): From empty roads to blocked mobile networks, top tier security formed the backdrop of the inaugural day of the G20 meet in Delhi where leaders from across the globe gathered under one roof to attend the G20 meeting at Bharat Mandapam on Saturday.
To ensure a watertight security during the gathering, the city was declared a no-fly zone and mobile signals at venue were jammed to prevent any breaches, the security establishment left no stones unturned while also balancing the vigil with passenger convenience.
All roads leading to 'Bharat Mandapam' were barricaded, and there was no traffic movement from 8 am onwards till the end of meeting due to VVIP movement in New Delhi area.
A senior officer informed that the entire India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) Complex in Pragati Maidan, where Bharat Mandapam is located, was divided into 17 zones and 23 sectors for better security cover. A senior IPS rank officer, along with many other officers, is managing the security at the site.
More than 2500 media persons from various countries are attending the G20 event. In order to keep the convenience of visitors' top priority while crossing over security checks, bar code scanners were placed.
"The security system at Bharat Mandapam was more similar like airport security where passengers convenience is the top priority while he or she passing through security process," said a journalist from Europian Country, who wished not to be named.
Another Police officer informed that police personnel deployed in security duty at International Media Center were especially trained to deal with international media.
"We have given emphasis on gesture and language. Everything is going smooth, and visitors are entering and exiting the venue with minimum human interferance in the security system," the officer said.
An unprecedented seven-tier security cordon, manned by the Delhi Police, the National Security Guard (NSG), the Indian Army, and the para military were in the security of G 20 venue.
The security protocol for the venue was in place for the International Exhibition and Convention Center or IECC, called the Bharat Mandapam — also includes safe houses and helipads. (ANI)
