Frankfurt-bound AI plane suffers cabin decompression, lands safely back in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 6 (ANI) A Delhi-Frankfurt Air India plane, with 191 passengers on board, suffered cabin decompression at an altitude of 20,000 feet and returned to Delhi on Wednesday, thus averting a possible mishap.

Delhi-Frankfurt Air India plane which suffered cabin decompression on Wednesday

New Delhi, Mar 6 (ANI) A Delhi-Frankfurt Air India plane, with 191 passengers on board, suffered cabin decompression at an altitude of 20,000 feet and returned to Delhi on Wednesday, thus averting a possible mishap.

The Boeing 787 took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 1.35 pm and cabin decompression was detected when it attained the altitude of 20,000 feet, officials said.

The pilot of the AI-121 turned back from Rajasthan air space and landed safely at Delhi airport at around 4 pm, they said.

The aircraft was grounded and another plane is being scheduled tomorrow to fly the passengers to Frankfurt, the officials said.  

"Air India flight AI121 operating from Delhi to Frankfurt today faced an issue of decompression and keeping safety of the 220 passengers in mind, the flight had returned to Delhi. No passenger has suffered any injury. The flight will now operate with a change of aircraft at 0600hrs on 7th March from Delhi. All pax are safe & are being extended all assistance at Delhi. Air India is committed to maintaining highest standards of passenger comfort and safety," read an official statement issued by the national carrier.
