Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 31 (ANI): Following allegations of financial anomalies in Morigaon district, the Assam government on Friday has directed all district commissioners to inspect and verify all the schemes under 15th Finance Commission.
In an office order issued by Dr JB Ekka, Principal Secretary of Panchayat and Rural Development Department, on Friday following the directive of the department Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass said, "In order to ensure that the schemes taken up under the 15th Finance Commission are implemented as per approved plan and estimates, it has been decided that, henceforth, all the schemes under the 15th Finance Commission will be inspected/verified by the respective District Commissioners for the period w.e.f. 2021-22 upto 2023-24."
"After verification is complete, the district commissioners shall submit detailed verification reports to the Principal Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Panchayat and Rural Development Department for perusal and appraisal. This order comes into force with immediate effect," said the government order.
It is to be mentioned that, Congress MLA Asif Mohammad Nazar on Friday raised an issue of financial anomalies taken place in Morigaon district in the Assam assembly. (ANI)
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma affirmed that the decision to scrap the practice of 2-hour adjournment for Jumma prayers in the state legislative assembly was a collective decision.
"By doing away with the 2 hour Jumma break, the Assam Assembly has prioritised productivity and shed another vestige of colonial baggage. This practice was introduced by Muslim League's Syed Saadulla in 1937. My gratitude to Hon'ble Speaker Shri Biswajit Daimary and our legislators for this historical decision," the Assam CM said in his post on X.
Assam Legislative Assembly earlier in the day officially amended the rule providing for a two-hour break Jumma break observed to facilitate Muslim legislators to offer Friday prayers. The decision, however, invited criticism from several opposition leaders.
Assam CM Sarma said that the decision was not his alone but collectively of the state assembly and added that the Assembly rules committee also includes members from the minority community. (ANI)
