Flood situation in Assam's Morigaon deteriorates, people forced to leave their homes

Morigaon (Assam) [India], August 30 (ANI): The flood situation in Assam's Morigaon district has deteriorated after the flood waters inundated new areas affecting over 15,000 people in the district.
The flood waters submerged 3025 hectares of crop area, and more than 100 villages under the Mayong and Bhuragaon revenue circles in the district.
Many flood-affected people have now been taking shelter on roads, embankments, high lands.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report, in the Sildubi area under the Mayong revenue circle, the flood waters have submerged at least 10-12 villages and forced many people to leave their homes after flood waters entered their homes.
According to locals, the water level of the Brahmaputra River is increasing and the flood waters entered new areas.
They also alleged that no official from the district administration or government visited the flood-affected areas and most of the people are facing massive problems due to the flood.
On the other hand, the flood situation in Assam remains grim as over 3.07 lakh people of 21 districts including 61,000 children have been affected by the deluge.
According to ASDMA, nearly 72,000 people have been affected in the Lakhimpur district, 47,000 people are affected in the Majuli district, 41,000 people in Golaghat district, 37,500 people in Biswanath district, 28,000 people in Darrang district, 22,000 people in Sivasagar district, 20,400 people affected in Dhemaji district.
The flood waters have submerged nearly 21,600 hectares of crop area in the flood-hit districts.
The current wave of floods has affected 756 villages under 49 revenue circles.
Many flood-affected people have been forced to leave their homes and now taking shelter on roads, embankments, high lands after the flood waters entered their homes, ASDMA said.
The district administration has set up 91 relief camps and relief distribution centres.
Following incessant rainfall, the water level of the Brahmaputra River is flowing above the danger level mark at Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Guwahati, Tezpur and Neamatighat while the water level of Beki River is flowing above the danger level at Road Bridge in Barpeta district, Disang and Dikhou river in Sivasagar district, Subansiri river in Lakhimpur district.
Nearly 2.70 lakh domestic animals and poultry have also been affected by the flood.
Teams of SDRF and local administration are engaged in rescue operations in many flood-affected areas and rescued 222 people in the last 24 hours.
The flood waters on Tuesday breached one embankment in the Darrang district while damaging one embankment, 30 roads, Anganwadi centres, school buildings, irrigation canals etc.
In Majuli, the flood waters on Tuesday washed away a wooden bridge at the Bhakat Chapori area.
15 people have lost their lives in the flood in the state this year so far. (ANI)
